Hvac Air Ducts

 Hvac Air Ducts

The main purpose of HVAC air ducts is to deliver heated, cooled and ventilated air to and fro an HVAC system and a residential or commercial building. These air ducts are usually made of round or square hollow metal conduit. When the heating or cooling source of the system generates heated or cooled air, the air is directed through the air ducts and distributed throughout the building. With a functional HVAC system, the building is assured of having a comfortable indoor climate.
Air Ducts Types
Each type of HVAC air ducts has different capabilities as to the way it maintains air temperature, air quality, noise and condensation. The most efficient but very costly air duct is the fiberglass duct. It is recognized to be the best when it comes to thermal efficiency, air quality, lowering condensation and cutting excess noise. The commonly used type is the flexible spiral air duct. This type is economical and easy to install but it does not lower down condensation effectively and offers poor temperature efficiency. Another type is the metal air duct which comes in rectangle or round shape. This type is the cheapest among the three different types.
Cleaning Air Ducts
Cleaning of the HVAC air ducts is important not only for the benefit of system protection but also to keep the residents safe and healthy. An operating air conditioning duct tends to accumulate dust, mold, bacteria and other air contaminants. If these pollutants are not removed, it can clog the passage reducing air flow and may cause respiratory problems to the occupants.
Cleaning the air conditioning ducts is easy involving washing and vacuuming. However to ensure proper cleaning, it is best to employ a professional HVAC contractor. The contractor will not only clean the HVAC unit but will also perform troubleshooting to know if it’s functioning optimally.
